Jeff has been practicing trust and estate law in Ellsworth since 1985. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Rutgers-Camden School of Law, and is admitted to the bars of the state and federal courts of Maine and New Jersey (inactive) and the U.S. Supreme Court. Jeff is regularly invited to testify before the Maine Legislature on proposed legislation concerning trusts, estate planning, and probate administration.
Since its creation in 2009, Jeff has been one of the ten lawyers and judges serving on the Maine Probate and Trust Law Advisory Commission (PATLAC), having been appointed and reappointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Jeff is the author of the chapter on “Marital Deduction Planning” in A Practical Guide to Estate Planning in Maine, published in 2012 (revised 2017).
Jeff was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC) in 1990, and is currently a member of the Practice Committee, the Technology Committee, and the Artificial Intelligence Task Force. He was named Dean of the ACTEC New England Fellows Institute in 2019. His most recent national project has been as an Observer on the committee that drafted the Commission’s Uniform Recognition of Digital Wills Act (2019). Jeff has been included in the directory “The Best Lawyers in America" since 1995, and he was voted to the first “New England Superlawyers” in 2007 and every year thereafter. Martindale-Hubbell has awarded him an "Av" rating, described as the "highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards."
Jeff has made many educational presentations about trust and estate law over the years, from local seminars for non-lawyers to national meetings of lawyers and trust bankers.
Prior to establishing her own law practice in estate planning, probate, trust administration, corporate matters, and real estate, Rebecca was Senior Vice President & Senior Trust Officer at Union Trust Company (now Camden National Bank) from 1994 to 2008. Before that, she practiced law at Loughlin & Wade in Portsmouth, NH. She merged her business with the practices of Jeffrey Jones and Roberta Kuriloff in 2013, thus forming Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, LLC.
Rebecca, who also goes by Becky, holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from The Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. degree from the University of Maine School of Law. She is admitted to the bar in Maine and New Hampshire. She is a member of the Maine, New Hampshire, and Hancock County Bar Associations. Rebecca graduated with honors from the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University and ABA Stonier Graduate School of Executive Bank Management at Georgetown University. She served as a member of the Advisory Board for the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor Program (CTFA), the Certified Council of the Institute of Certified Bankers, through 2016.
Rebecca believes in giving back to her community, so she regularly volunteers her time for local organizations: Corporator of Northern Light; Director of Frenchman Bay Conservancy; Board Member of the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA; former Board Member of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce; member of the Ellsworth Business Development Council (EBDC); former instructor for the Institute of Certified Bankers' CTFA programs; and citizen representative to the Study Committee for the Hancock County Technical Center. In addition, Rebecca has been an instructor in various estate planning and investment topics for local organizations.
An Ellsworth native, Rebecca's passions include travel and golf.
Catherine joined Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, LLC in 2016. Prior to that, she worked at Sandra Hylander Collier Law Offices from 1997 until 2010, then operated her own law practice in Ellsworth, Maine. Her work has focused on clients with real estate, probate, estate planning, and civil matters. Additionally, she has advocated in many family matters, including divorce and custody cases, child protection issues, and Guardian ad Litem work. Catherine is a proud graduate of Bates College and University of Maine School of Law and is admitted to the bars of Maine and the U.S District Court of Maine. She has taught Business Law at Eastern Maine Community College and was previously an at large member of the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar - Grievance Commission. Catherine has been a member of the Ellsworth Noontime Rotary Club and has also been Secretary of the Hancock County Bar Association. She currently serves on the board of Special Childrens' Friends in Ellsworth. She enjoys running, spending time with her family, and driving her 1970s Beetle.
Tim joined the firm in 2018. He was born and raised in Southwest Harbor and is a graduate of Mount Desert Island High School. He attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he graduated summa cum laude and was a member of several honors fraternities, including Phi Beta Kappa, and earned his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law.
Prior to practicing law, Tim was the assistant general manager of the historic Claremont Hotel, where he enjoyed meeting people from around the world and managed roughly 30 employees each season. He is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bar Harbor and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Downeast Transportation, the Southwest Harbor Historical Society, and Mirus Academy. Tim enjoys offering regular adult education classes with both the Mount Desert Island and RSU 24 school systems on the basics of estate planning and probate.
He can often be found hiking in Acadia National Park with his wife Rebecca who works with Friends of Acadia and the new addition to his family, daughter Sophia.
Prior to joining Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, LLC in 2019, Dawn was a patient representative at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital (now known as Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital) and was an active member of the Employee Engagement Team. Many people recognize her from her 38-year career in the travel industry, including her years with Hancock Travel, AAA Travel, and the Bar Harbor Airport.
Dawn is a Maine native and an Ellsworth High School graduate. In her free time, she enjoys boating on local waters, being outdoors, and spending time with her family and friends.
Elena joined the firm in 2022 as a paralegal after over twenty years in the banking industry. She handles probate matters, corporations, and real estate. She graduated from Husson University with a degree in Business Administration and brings with her a tremendous skill set in operations, electronic banking, staff management, and compliance.
Originally from Guatemala City, she is bilingual in Spanish and English. She and her husband reside in Eastbrook, where they look forward to visits from their three adult sons and two grandchildren. Other things that bring her joy include kayaking and traveling to warm climates.
Elizabeth is a paralegal who handles trust administration, corporate relationships, fiduciary matters, and probate estates. She also manages public relations, marketing, and advertising for the firm and carefully monitors the database to keep everything in the office running smoothly.
Previously, Elizabeth was a Trust Officer at Union Trust Company (now Camden National Bank). She graduated from Lawrence University in Wisconsin with a degree in math and music. She is a Notary Public and has been involved with a variety of local non-profit organizations. She and her family reside in Blue Hill. Elizabeth enjoys reading, hiking, running, and cooking in her spare time.
Lesley is a paralegal who specializes in probate, real estate, and trust. Prior to joining our firm, Lesley had decades of work as a paralegal and human resources manager with law firms on the Blue Hill Peninsula and in California. She also has experience in bookkeeping, corporate training, treasurer duties, and school administration.
Lesley grew up in northern California. She and her MDI-native husband moved back to Maine over twenty years ago. They have raised three children in Blue Hill and participated in many town organizations over the years: school PTA, Little League, Blue Hill Historical Society.
In addition to her paralegal work, Lesley helps run the family contracting business. She loves to hike, take weekend trips with husband Jonathan, and is looking forward to more extensive travel now that her kids are (mostly) grown and out of the house.
Joanne joined the firm in 2022, bringing with her a strong background in accounting, banking, and customer service. She spent 29 years as a teacher at Ellsworth High School, primarily covering subjects relating to business and accounting. She also has experience as a personal banker and a front end manager in a grocery store, in addition to other jobs.
Joanne hails from Eastport originally, but has spent the majority of her life in Ellsworth, where she raised her daughter and pursues interests in reading, knitting, and gardening.
Born and raised in Ellsworth, Rebecca (Becca) joined the firm in 2017. She had worked at the Law Offices of Sandra Hylander Collier for 20 years until Sandra's retirement, focusing on areas of family law, civil litigation, and personal injury; she was also the office manager and bookkeeper for the firm. Becca is currently a paralegal who primarily handles real estate transactions and probate estates.
Becca is a Notary Public, the President and Secretary of the Board of Director’s at Special Children’s Friends, and a member of the Autism Society of Maine and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son. They enjoy biking, hiking, camping, and lounging by the pool.
After serving in the United States Coast Guard for 7 years, Rhonda began her financial career at Union Trust in 1999. She has worked as a paralegal since 2008 and is responsible for administration of fiduciary accounts, coordination of client matters, and drafting estate planning documents.
Rhonda has attended various banking and computer related courses and has successfully completed the Northern New England School of Banking course. She is also a graduate of the ABA National Trust School and the ABA National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Rhonda and her family live in Ellsworth, where they enjoy spending time together pursuing their fitness passions such as running, hiking, skiing, and biking.
Rita moved to Maine after retiring from the Navy in 1999. While in the Navy, Rita attended the Naval Justice School, held the highest level security clearance, and served in various administrative positions, including Command Legal Clerk. She joined Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, LLC in 2021 and works as a Legal Assistant. She is the mother of two grown daughters and resides in Franklin with her husband, Danny.
Susan is a paralegal who handles real estate transactions, complex probate and estate administration, funding of trusts, and drafting estate planning documents. She is a graduate of the University of Maine at Machias with a degree in secretarial studies. Prior to working here, she worked for thirty-eight years as a paralegal and office manager in Milbridge. She has reduced her hours in the office as a phase-in for eventual retirement.
A native of Addison, Susan currently resides in Gouldsboro. Her spare time is spent with family, two frisky Siamese cats, bird watching, and quilting.
In addition to her role as a paralegal, Jeanne is also an RN and Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. She worked for more than 20 years as a Registered Nurse, which provides a unique and valuable insight that complements legal analysis of client problems. Her extensive network of contacts in the health care field can be helpful to clients who are seeking home care or evaluating assisted living or skilled nursing facilities. She is not actively working with clients at the moment.
She has three adult children and is married to Jeff Jones.
Debbie has over 20 years of experience in accounting, payroll, and audit. Prior to being the Office Manager at Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, LLC, she was AVP, Audit/Payroll Specialist for Union Trust Company and had 30 years of banking experience, primarily in the accounting office. Her primary responsibilities include office management, billing, helping clients manage their expenses, and bookkeeping for clients.
A Maine native and graduate of Ellsworth High School, Debbie enjoys gardening and spending time near water.
